Humulus Lupulus
Hops are a well known plant since they are a key ingredient in beer.  But they have so much value beyond a flavor in a beverage.  These hardy, powerful vines are incredibly beautiful, they are resistant to deer and rabbit browse (at least thats what we've found!), and did you know the young shoots in the spring can be cooked like a lovely, spicy asparagus?!

Hops can be rambunctious and thread their way through your forest garden in a way that can be challenging, so we normally suggest considering a dedicated trellis or fence for them to climb.  They can provide amazing shade and privacy even a bit in year one, and can be a wind break as well.  We like to let them climb into and over our living brush walls and fence lines as a feral, verdant addition to our boundary spaces and wildlife corridors.

We dry the flower cones in the fall and use them in tinctures to help facilitate sleep, in tea as a clean bittering flavor and even in delicate applications in ice cream and desserts!  It's a great plant in so many ways!

We are currently offering 'Cascade' variety.  This is a great starter variety and performs well in most applications. Your order will provide you with one or two well rooted runners ready to establish.

We are expanding our collection and will offer a number of named varieties in the future.  If you are interested in specific named varieties, let us know and if we have them we'll provide them for you...  Or email to chat about options.
