PLEASE READ: If you are local or regional to the Finger Lakes area (able to pick up in person), feel free to reach out to hello@edibleacres.org with a clear wish list of plants and we will work to arrange a pickup.
We update our inventory on March 1st for Spring bare root sales and September 1st for Fall bare root sales. If you are visiting this page and see everything as sold out, please make a note in your calendar to revisit at our next ‘opening’ and pick up some lovely plants!
Our Fall offerings tend to have higher numbers of trees, shrubs, cuttings and a medley of our abundant and fall appropriate herbaceous perennials. Spring offerings will generally have more herbaceous perennials, grasses, etc and a smaller number of trees and shrubs. We weight our inventory in large part based on seasonal appropriateness for establishment. We hope you understand and visit again if you don’t find what you are looking for this time.

Viola Odorata
Beautiful ground covering Violets have been spreading and filling in our landscape in many garden beds. We’ve watched over the years as they colonize and thoroughly fill the ground space in the more moist, shady parts of the garden. Tolerant of quite shady conditions, they can be an incredibly useful, beautiful AND edible ground cover to your shrub and tree guilds. We’ve learned to avoid planting them in areas where other low growing plants are (for example, we aren’t thrilled with our strawberry and violet ‘guild’). They are strong competitors in the 1”-6” division of the garden and can make life hard for other small beings. But under the shade of a currant, or as a vigorous filler of an understory they are wonderful. Strong roots help hold soil together and their low and full canopy keep soils moist, cool and seem to really help support fungal life

We offer Violets from our various patches. Mostly they flower purple but we see shades of blue and white and other diversity in the patches. They are easily expanded by root fragments and divisions. Your order will provide you with 3-5+ root sections that can be established as they are or divided further and cared for in a nursery bed to ramp up your numbers quickly.
