Plants for Spring 2019 Shipping

NOTE: We’re ‘closed’ for shipping for Spring 2019. We’ll update our inventory for Fall 2019 shipping around Summer Solstice. Check back early July, or look for a newsletter update that we’re open again. Thanks for your patience. We’re a tiny nursery and are trying our best to keep up with the interest and excitement over these wonderful plants!

Your order placed now will be collected, carefully packaged and shipped as bare root plants in the early spring when the ground has thawed but the plants haven’t started actively growing. For our climate this is normally sometime between later March and mid-April… We’ll email you shipping confirmation and tracking details as soon as they ship!

TIP: Use the tags above to help filter our offerings by characteristic (ie. click on ‘fruit’ to find any fruit bearing plants we offer, etc.) As we add more and more it is a helpful way to find a plant to fit your goals…

Western Sand Cherry

from 15.00

Prunus Besseyi
We got Western Sand Cherry seedlings a number of years ago from a conservation tree sale. It was listed as ‘wildlife food’ and ‘ornamental’. I researched a bit further and folks talked about eating the fruit so I was interested. A few years later, the incredibly hardy, beautiful dwarf shrubs were LOADED with flowers in early spring and then covered with so much jet black little cherry fruit that some branches broke! Once the fruits ripened enough to be soft and easy to pick, they proved to be flavorful, slightly sweet and really enjoyable.

These shrubs top out at about 3’ tall, but can make many many hundreds of fruits per plant somehow If a site design calls for low shrubs that are very low care, beautifully flowered in early spring and loaded with enough fruit to break branches, you’ve got your winner right here!

Your order provides you with a 2nd year seedling 12” or taller and getting pretty close to bearing age. Supposed to be self-fruitful but we’ve only grown them in groups so we can’t say for sure… Very easy to propagate from seed once they start cropping.

Roughly 3’ tall and suckering/spreading
