Plants for Fall 2019 Shipping

Your order placed now will be collected, carefully packaged and shipped as bare root plants as soon as we enter dormancy this fall. This normally begins mid to late October and into early November. We’ll email you shipping confirmation and tracking details as soon as they ship! Since our nursery is outdoors and based on nature our timing is dependent on the weather.

TIP: Use the tags above to help filter our offerings by characteristic (ie. click on ‘fruit’ to find any fruit bearing plants we offer, etc.) As we add more and more it is a helpful way to find a plant to fit your goals…

Symphytum Uplandicum - “Bocking 14”
Probably one of the most useful, beneficial plants you can grow that has one of the worst reputations of any plant!  Some people hate comfrey, because ‘it spreads everywhere’... In our 6 years of growing this plant, it has never spread unless disturbed.  If you like to rototill or plow your gardens, forget this plant.  Established as a component of a polyculture or support of other plants, it is simply exquisite.

Gorgeous, large, fuzzy green leaves continue to erupt all season from the root crown, and gentle nodding purple flowers pop up to provide nectar adored by bees.  Can be used as a medicine, or leaves chopped and composted to help your soil grow.  Excellent all around support plant and ‘dynamic accumulator’ with it’s massive deep, mining root system.  We can’t get enough of it at Edible Acres (but we don’t own a tiller!)

Up to 4’ when in flower

Site Preference:
Can grow in basically any soil and site.

Zone 4 (although we’ve been told by someone in North Central Alberta, zone 3, that it has grown well for them for 20 years with no shelter!)

You can get established plants or root fragments by the 20 pack which will quickly root for you once in your soil.  We can offer discounts for bulk orders of rootlets (100+), email for details

Watch the video below to see how we plant both the rooted crowns and root fragments we offer. It is incredibly easy to plant and establish this wonderful plant…
