Bare Root Plants for Sale
Thank you for your interest and happy growing!
PLEASE READ: If you are local or regional to the Finger Lakes area (able to pick up in person), feel free to reach out to hello@edibleacres.org with a clear wish list of plants as an alternative to ordering here and we will work to arrange a pickup.
We update our offerings on March 1st for Spring bare root sales and September 1st for Fall bare root sales. If you are visiting this page and see all plants as sold out, please make a note in your calendar to revisit at our next ‘opening’ and pick up some lovely plants!
Our Fall offerings tend to have higher numbers of trees, shrubs, cuttings and a medley of our abundant and Fall appropriate herbaceous perennials. Spring will generally have more herbaceous perennials and grasses, and a smaller number of trees and shrubs. We weight our inventory in large part based on seasonal appropriateness for establishment. We hope you understand and visit again if you don’t find the plants you are looking for this time.
If you are super eager to get plants now, we now have a Permaculture Nursery page that lists friends of ours with ethical and thoughtful growing practices. We strongly encourage you to check them out and get some awesome plants from them too!
Please be aware that some plants are considered ‘illegal’ in some states. It is possible that some of our plants are not allowed to be planted where you live. If you are in doubt, you can search the plant and your state and see if it they are prohibited or ‘illegal’ to plant and if so please don’t order them. Thanks.
TIP: Use the tags above to help filter our offerings by characteristic (ie. click on ‘fruit’ to find any fruit bearing plants we offer, etc.) As we add more and more it is a helpful way to find a plant to fit your goals…

It would be too much to make a separate page for every single plant we offer so here is a collection of some of our unique and special plants that don’t have their own page. We’ll have a brief note on each type listed here and you can certainly search online for more details. We won’t offer details on hardiness/size/site since there is so much variety in here, please look into that before deciding if you have any concerns.
Female Seabuckthorn: A rooted known female Seabuckthorn from one of our various lovely cultivars. This offering does not include specific named types, but ‘female’ seabuckthorn means an excellent modern cultivar that is very worth planting and harvesting! 1st year rooted cuttings 8” or taller
‘Tall Male’ Seabuckthorn: A cloned selection of a phenomenally good male seaberry/seabuckthorn that can pollinate most every modern named female seaberry. The product of detailed and thoughtful breeding from our friend Buzz Ferver in VT this is the best male seaberry we’ve seen and is incredibly stable and vigorous and Tall as in it’s name :). 1st year rooted cutting 8” or taller (most much taller)
‘Norris’ Female Che: Very interesting and extremely tough and hardy tree… The Che is a relative of Mulberry and Osage Orange and grows with amazing vigor into a small tree with extremely dense orange wood, unique glossy leaves and the potential for an amazing fruit. Che fruit still eludes us as we are in central NY and have cold falls and we don’t have a male to pollinate this tree very well (yet!). Described as a very large mulberry type fruit with mild strawberry and watermelon notes, we’re excited for longer falls and robust males to pollinate this friend so we can try like our southern friends. For now we can root dormant hardwood cuttings and offer them up. Well rooted 1st year cuttings 8” or taller
‘Pioneer’ Cornelian Cherry: Seedling grown from a truly top-tier cultivar, these slow growing shade tolerant small trees can make bountiful crops of deep red cherry-like fruits in the fall. A dogwood family plant, these are extremely dense, hardy and resilient trees that flower super early and make a valuable and medicinal and rare crop even with deep shade, large deer populations and other challenges. Beautiful and uniquely delicious! Seedling grown 1st year plants 8” or taller
‘Niagra’ Grape: Popular older variety of green grape that makes nice clusters of richly flavored fruit with seeds in mid-season. Seem to be quite disease resistant and solid growers, we appreciate their lack of fuss and their lovely green fruits! 1st year rooted cuttings 12” or taller.
New Jersey Tea: We don’t know a lot about these plants, but have been growing them from seed for a few years and have some nice sized 2nd year plants we are happy to share. Native, beautiful and with interesting attributes and offerings, we encourage you to look into them and maybe scoop up a few seedlings for yourself! 2nd year seedlings 12” or taller
