We update our offerings on March 1st for Spring bare root sales and September 1st for Fall bare root sales. If you are visiting this page and see all plants as sold out, please make a note in your calendar to revisit at our next ‘opening’ and pick up some lovely plants!
Our Fall offerings tend to have higher numbers of trees, shrubs, cuttings and a medley of our abundant and Fall appropriate herbaceous perennials. Spring will generally have more herbaceous perennials and grasses, and a smaller number of trees and shrubs. We weight our inventory in large part based on seasonal appropriateness for establishment. We hope you understand and visit again if you don’t find the plants you are looking for this time.
If you are super eager to get plants now, we now have a Permaculture Nursery page that lists friends of ours with ethical and thoughtful growing practices. We strongly encourage you to check them out and get some awesome plants from them too!
Please be aware that some plants are considered ‘illegal’ in some states. It is possible that some of our plants are not allowed to be planted where you live. If you are in doubt, you can search the plant and your state and see if it they are prohibited or ‘illegal’ to plant and if so please don’t order them. Thanks.

Bulbs
Bulbs are amazing! We can plant them in the Fall and they will emerge early Spring to provide wonderful flowers, pleasure, joy, and, eventually (in some cases) a very worthwhile food crop too! Plants who store their energy in bulbs for a long dormancy tend to be exceptionally hardy and easy to work with. That has been our experience. We are thrilled to offer a few types of bulbs that have proven very reliable and easy to grow. We hope you find this to be true for you, too!
Greater Camas (Camassia Leichtlnii) - A recent addition to our plant community at Edible Acres, this super hardy bulb can be Fall planted in rich garden soil and can specifically/wonderfully handle the more wet areas of your growing space with grace. In early Spring they emerge and offer a stunningly beautiful blue/purple flower at a very similar time to Daffodils. Once dormant the bulbs can rest and expand and be ready to grow again in most any climate, or can be dug in the cold months (ideally after Winter) to offer large spherical bulbs that can be transplanted to expand the population, or cleaned and super slow cooked to experience an ancient staple food crop. This plant is still new to us so we can’t speak to our culinary experience with it (yet!) but have been floored by the beauty of the flowers and the ease of growth shown in even our most wet garden spaces.
We offer Camas bulbs in packs that have 6 well cured and ready to plant bulbs for $20. These do very well to be Fall planted.
Daffodil (Narcissus pseudonarcissus) - We’ve worked for a while to collect a very diverse and unique collection of Daffodils. Some make a powerfully rich aroma, some have wildly colored centers, some make a stack of flower stalks. We’ve intentionally taken 8-10 different cultivars we’ve expanded over time and mixed them to provide a truly open and playful medley of bulbs for the senses of mammals and insects alike! These bulbs are also amazingly deft at providing deflection from voles and mice when planted next to young trees and can be a lovely edge plant in your expanding polycultures and guilds.
Your Daffodil order provides you 6 bulbs for $20, from mixed cultivars and do well to be Fall planted.
Potato Onion (Allium Cepa var. Aggregatum)- These aren’t potatoes! Potato Onions are an heirloom onion that are considered a ‘multiplier onion’. You plant one bulb in and you get a bunch out! More like garlic in that way than a standard onion which is one in, one out. We hold our potato onions in a root cellar for the Winter to plant out the following Spring, which results in less bolting and flowering, and more focused growth of onions. You can explore and plant some in the Fall, some Spring, or all in the Fall to see if they flower and produce seed to expand the genetic diversity of your project later! These tend to be very reliable and long lasting storage onions with good heat and flavor.
Your Potato Onion order gives you 6 nice healthy bulbs of average size for $20. These can be fall planted, or likely better yet: held in cool and dry conditions until Spring and planted when the soil can be worked.

Site Preference:
Potato Onion loves rich garden soil with ample mulch, in full sun and with good drainage.
Daffodils can handle a huge range of conditions but like sun and richness if they can get it.
Camas seem to tolerate wet conditions better than pretty much any bulb we’ve worked with, maybe not down in a pond but in an area you wear boots late into the Summer they can thrive.

Wondering how much garlic you need to order? Read on:
A simple way to figure out how much garlic you need to order is following this simple formula:
Multiply the square footage of your bed times 2 and then divide by the average number of cloves in a pound of seed garlic.
Let’s look at a simple example:
Your garlic bed measures 20 feet long by 3 feet wide. That equals 60 square feet. You can plant 120 cloves of garlic.
Our seed garlic has approximately the following quantities per pound:
• Hardneck ~35 cloves per pound
• Softneck ~50 cloves per pound
• Elephant ~20 cloves per pound
Elephant ‘Orbs’ - 5-8 massive cloves per pound
If we’re planting elephant garlic we would need 6 pounds of seed. (120 divided by 20), softneck would need 2.4 pounds (120/50) and hardneck 3.4 pounds (120/35) You can round up to nearest pound to be sure to have enough, you can always eat some!
Additional example:
4’ x 100’ bed = 400 sq ft. -> 400 x 2 = 800 cloves -> 800 / 35 cloves of hardneck = 22.85lbs. We would need 23 pounds of hardneck to plant out this bed.
